TIPS:

The average U.S. home utilizes approximately 500 kW of electricity each month. Compare this number to the below tips:

1. Change Incandescent Lights for Low-Energy Lights. By swapping an everyday 60-watt incandescent light bulb with a 15-watt energy savings light bulb you have already saved 75% of your energy use with that particular light. If you multiply this practice through your house you will likely reduce your electricity use in half!

2. Turn off the computer when not in use. Most new desktop computers from manufacturers like Dell, HP, Gateway, etc. are 300 to 400 Watt systems. The result of running one of these computers 24 hours a day interprets into 216 kW to 297 kW usage each month.

3. Use ENERGY STAR appliances, fixtures, and electronics. The ENERGY STAR program identifies those products that are significantly more energy efficient compared to the "standard" consumer product. Typically the items they identify will consume 10 to 50% less energy. Begin each of your shopping purchases by reviewing the ENERGY STAR website.
